1,100 backpacks for the new school year

Only weeks remain until 1 September. For most families these are the usual worries — uniform, notebooks, a new backpack. For families who survived evacuation or lost their home, even this is often out of reach. So we gathered 1,100 school kits for children from 27 communities.

What's in the kit

• a sturdy backpack and a change of footwear;
• a full year's stationery set;
• for families in hardship — a voucher for a school uniform.

"A child shouldn't feel they're \"different\" walking into class. The same backpack is also about dignity."

Why it matters

Education is a bridge to the future and, at the same time, a space of stability: a schedule, friends, the feeling of "everything as usual". By bringing a child back to learning, we give back part of their childhood.
